Company managers across Europe are increasingly looking to their IT workers to help steer the direction of their firms, a study has shown.

The survey, conducted by research firm IDC, highlights that management in the UK, Spain, Germany, France and Italy are often relying upon IT staff to help make important decisions in relation to their business, reports IT Week.

Some 70 per cent of respondents said that their IT workers aided innovation within their firms, while 20 per cent agreed that their IT departments had instigated new initiatives within their companies.

"While business managers are quite satisfied with their IT managers, they have clear priorities on how IT could better support their business and strategic objectives," said Angela Vacca, consulting manager for European vertical markets at the firm.

According to Techworld.com, skills which IT workers should possess to become more desirable to employers include project management and the ability to mobilise networks.
