While many businesses acknowledge information security to be a major issue, few have taken steps to implement a security strategy, according to a new report.

A survey conducted by finance firm Deloitte found that 63 per cent of business executives surveyed have yet to develop an information security strategy.

This, the firm argues, demonstrates the gap between being aware of the problem and finding a solution.

Adel Melek, Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu's global leader of IT risk management and security services, said despite this, identifying potential problems is "half the battle".

"Security training and awareness, along with access and identity management of employees, clients and suppliers and data protection are among organisations' top initiatives this year as they fight to keep pace with the ever-changing threat landscape," he added.

In related news, a recent survey by recruitment firm theACCOUNTANCYjob.com found that 75 per cent of accounts departments now have the most up to date IT systems, Onrec.com reports.
