ICAI aims to bring in more accountants

News Article - 04 October 2007

A shortage of accounting talent in Ireland has led one major organisation to splash out in a bid to attract more professionals to the industry.

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland has announced a $200,000 (£139,000) cash injection to be used as part of a media campaign to improve the allure of accounting, reports Finance Magazine.

Some 60 per cent of managing partners in Ireland have reported difficulties in recruiting the best talent for their enterprises, a shortage that threatens industry as a whole.

Ronan Murphy, managing partner with PricewaterhouseCoopers, is cited by the publication as saying: "The single biggest challenge affecting the profession in our experience continues to be to attract and retain the best people."

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland and CA magazine recently revealed that a similar trend is occurring in the country, with all bosses experiencing some difficulty in attracting staff.
