ICAEW to announce vice-presidency election results

News Article - 07 February 2008
Category:

The accountancy industry must ensure no "knee jerk" reactions are made as a result of the current economic climate, it has been claimed.

Gerald Russell, senior partner in the London office of Ernst & Young, made his comments in his campaign to become the vice-president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), reports Accountancy Age.

In his candidacy statement, he warned that "damaging regulation" created as a result of the current financial problems would have negative impacts on the industry as a whole.

Mr Russell remarked: "In the short term we need to ensure our reputation is not damaged by any fall-out from the credit crunch and economic slowdown which follows."

Also running for the role are Ian Hayes, managing director at Vataxworld London and Paul Wagstaff, client partner at HLB Vantis Audit in Wokingham.

The results of the election are expected to be released today, in time for the successful applicant to begin their role in June.

According to the news source, the ICAEW vice-president automatically becomes deputy president after one year and then president in 2010.

The ICAEW was established by the Royal Charter in 1880 and currently has over 128,000 members.
