The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) is urging people to complete their tax returns well in advance of the January 31st 2008 deadline.

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) will calculate how much an individual owes if they submit their form by the end of next month, although those choosing to file online will receive their tax calculation automatically,

Jane Moore, technical manager from the tax faculty of the ICAEW, recommended people "struggling" with their form seek advice from a chartered accountant.

"Although the 30 September isn't a legal deadline and you won’t be penalised for missing it, it is a good idea to get your tax return done sooner rather than later," Ms Moore advised.

HMRC recently announced that it would be hosting a series of events in Wales to help small employers file their tax forms online.

The first presentation is to be held in Cardiff on September 14th.
