ICAEW member rejects appeal option

News Article - 20 February 2008
Category:

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) is yet to hold a public appeal hearing, reports Accountancy Age.

Ehsan Malik, the first ICAEW member to face a public disciplinary tribunal was found guilty and has decided not to argue the decision.

"There's no point for me," he told the publication. "I'd wanted to resign years ago."

Mr Malik was found guilty of failure to obtain hot file reviews - asking other firms to look at his audits - and fined £5,000 and ordered to pay £9,000 in costs.

He is also excluded from the ICAEW for five years.

Mr Malik claimed the audits which had been signed off did not contain his signature but that it had in fact been faked.

The ICAEW offers a number of qualifications to those in the accountancy profession, claiming to be the leading UK body of finance professionals.
