Financial and professional services workers will soon be able to develop their leadership skills while improving their business performance, it has been announced.
A new programme entitled Leadership Essentials has been detailed by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) and is to replace the previous course launched in 2005.
Dr Raymond Madden, executive director of learning and professional development at the institute, told an audience at the ICAEW's annual conference: "According to our annual Enterprise Survey, lack of leadership talent is seen as a major barrier to future growth for over 60 per cent of companies.
"It is therefore critical that businesses in all sectors invest in developing the next generation of business leaders if they are to remain competitive."
Mr Madden added that the course was uniquely designed for financiers to help them build on their business skills to become "future business leaders".
The programme will consist of a two-day workshop based around activities to take place in the Lake District, Peak District or Brecon Beacons and will feature tutoring from specialists as well as polar explorer Alan Chambers MBE.
Optional is a five-day fundraising project based in Tanzania aiming to benefit local people through useful measures such as school or community building.
