ICAEW in China deal

News Article - 09 October 2007

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) has announced details of a link-up with a Chinese body.

It has forged a relationship with the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants that will see the two nations co-operate on finance matters.

In addition, a new team will be created that seeks to examine the similarities or relative variations between the ACA and CPA qualifications. Eventually, this could see credits awarded in advance for previous studies.

According to Michael Izza, the chief executive of the ICAEW, the rate of growth experienced by China's economy has bred accountants who are highly skilled and internationally-aware.

"In recent years we have seen more of our UK qualified members going to work in China, taking world-class knowledge, skills and ethical standards to an increasingly important market," he added.

Last month the ICAEW announced details of a training and co-operation agreement with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan.
