Institute of Chartered Accountants of England and Wales (ICAEW) president Ian Morris has issued a plea for an end to the inter-association spats that have marked the last year.
Speaking before Scottish accountants in Edinburgh, Mr Morris addressed a recent row between the ICAEW and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).
"In all successful partnerships there are occasional differences between partners," he said, reports Accountancy Age.
"The important thing is that having aired our differences, we then have a drink together and all goes smoothly."
During talks on the possible merger of ICAEW and the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and
Accounting (CIPFA), anger erupted over plans to name the body the ICA.
ICAEW chief executive Eric Anstee threatened to "realign" the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies' funding during the row.
Mr Morris conspicuously failed to address the ICAEW's aggressive poaching of other associations' members however, or its divisive policies on separate CPD.
