A team leader has been appointed by the International
Accounting Standards Committee Foundation - the oversight body of the International
Accounting Standards Board (IASB) - to coordinate the organisation's XBRL activities.
Working closely with both public and private organisations, Olivier Servais former secretary-general of the XBRL in Europe project will be dealing with the advancement of online financial reporting through the computer language.
In addition, Mr Servais will advise users and preparers of international financial reporting standards (IFRS) on the timing and appropriateness of XBRL.
Mr Servais said: "With IFRSs now required or permitted by over 100 countries around the world, the foundation clearly has an important role to play in web-based financial reporting and I look forward to working with both the IASB and the foundation in advancing the development and promotion of XBRL."
Mark Holland, partner at the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales' IT faculty, recently told Accountancy Age that XBRL technology was powering ahead but could still be more widely adopted.
