HMRC promotes online filing

News Article - 29 August 2007

HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has announced a series of events to help businesses in Wales take advantage of online filing.

Starting in Cardiff next month, the events are aimed at demonstrating the department's online services, described by Phil Mack of HMRC as "quick, secure and convenient".

"Doing it online means HMRC can process your information more quickly," Mr Mack said.

"This means more up-to-date employee records and tax codes, and so fewer queries for employers to handle."

Employers can send PAYE information and their annual returns online, while those with fewer than 50 employers are eligible for a £100 tax-free bonus if they complete their 2007-08 return online, he added.

Mike Warburton of accountancy firm Grant Thornton recently told the Telegraph that many smaller firms are already filing tax returns online, but some larger companies with more "complex" returns have experienced "difficulties" with online attachments.
