Heat and energy strategy 'a huge task'

Businesses keen to begin accounting for carbon emissions may be interested to know that the proposed Heat and Energy Saving strategy has been deemed "a huge task" by one sector commentator.

Commenting on the unveiling of the plans during a recent speech by energy and climate change secretary Ed Milliband, Andrew Moore, managing director of BritishEco.com, said the "vast majority" of the population had been slow to take up renewable energy solutions.

Mr Milliband had stated that by 2020, the government wanted to give seven million homes a whole house refurbishment, including new technology to generate heat and power.

However, Mr Moore stated: "With the financial system as it is at the moment, how you actually work that in terms of who you give to loans is actually very difficult."

The consultation on the new strategy was jointly published by the Department of Energy and Climate Change and the Department for Communities and Local Government.
