A green stimulus as part of the Budget will be the "right thing" to do for the economy, for jobs and for the planet, one group has claimed - a statement businesses keen on accounting for carbon emissions may be in agreement with.

Steve Howard, chief executive officer of The Climate Group, said recent proposals from the Sustainable Development Committee had been "bold and ambitious" but were also realistic.

He added that the proposals were the level of action required to put the UK at the forefront of the green industrial revolution.

"Green jobs in energy efficiency, electric vehicles, carbon capture and storage and renewable power will convert a trade deficit into tens of thousands of green jobs," Mr Howard stated.

And he added that one major growth area of the global economy has been clean energy and technology.

According to the Independent, Alistair Darling, the chancellor of the Exchequer, will announce in his Budget that trials for electric cars in two or three cities will begin next year.
