Businesses that have taken an interest in accounting for carbon emissions may be interested to hear that one sector commentator believes the green jobs industry will see growth over the course of the next year.

Gerwyn Davies, public policy adviser from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), said that various predictions suggested that a million jobs would be created in the future, making the sector a good starting point for people as it covered so many industries, such as engineering.

"We have been saying to look to the future as well as the [present] if you can - the big growth we will see is in green jobs with lots of government funding coming in," he added.

Firms which are considering investing in carbonaccounting software in the new year may also wish to hear that according to the autumn 2008 Labour Market Outlook by the CIPD, 75 per cent of organisations are planning to recruit in the next three months, down from 81 per cent in summer 2008.
