Those with financial IT degrees planning to get a job may find it difficult without having first-hand experience of a working environment, a study has shown.
According to research by recruitment specialist FDM, experience in a job was the most valued aspect of an applicant's CV, with 59 per cent of employers saying they believed A-levels were of no significance.
In addition, only 12 per cent of HR managers said they would employ an IT graduate, while four per cent would source their staff from universities.
Professional accreditation in certain areas also held little sway with recruiters, with some qualifications being dismissed by up to 75 per cent of employers.
The firm's chief executive said that the findings suggested the need for UK education providers to offer courses which adequately meet the requirements of business today.
Earlier this year, a report by E-Skills UK found that students with an interest in IT might be better off opting for a degree in another field and increase their business skills.
