A|D|S is urging the Government to boost economic recovery
efforts through confident and wide-ranging investments in
world-leading British industrial sectors, such as aerospace
research and development. A|D|S research suggests investments in
these key areas, in addition to maintaining the current defence
budget, will provide the economy with an immediate boost that will
help sustain further efforts in the short and long term.
However, the Liberal Democrats have already outlined opposition
to maintaining and expanding the Trident program, in addition to
the UK's historically strong performance in defence exports. The
A|D|S also points out that both the Liberal Democrats and parts of
the Conservative Party have criticised the civil aviation industry
during the election trail. This is despite the economic benefits,
relatively limited environmental impact - and publicly stated plans
to actively reduce this impact.
A|D|S argues the UK aerospace and defence industries offer a
strong route out of the recession as they rank as number one in
Europe and second only to the US globally. Ian Godden, chairman of
A|D|S, believes they provide a significant revenue opportunity
available through rapid and strategic investment, and that the
Government should make an early move to encourage the most
efficient economic recovery.
Reducing the country's spiralling budget deficit and returning
the UK to fiscal health is a major priority for the Government, and
it remains to be seen whether investments in high-value
manufacturing sectors will form part of recovery efforts. During
the election campaign the major parties made pledges to invest in
manufacturing, but specifics were omitted so the scale of
investments may not be sufficient to revitalise the industries
concerned.
Whilst Government investment in manufacturing would help improve
business operations, companies must look to identify in-house
inefficiencies to make the most of the economic climate as it
begins to stabilise. Access software includes a number of features
designed to improve manufacturing business processes and the
project management of operations.
Budgetary control, for example, allows businesses to allocate
milestones, ensuring senior leaders can keep on top of key
deliverables at all stages of the project.
