The head of government finance has been recognised for her work in promoting a high standard of practice in financial management by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (Cima).

Dame Mary Keegan was presented with a special lifetime achievement award at the Government Finance Profession Awards in Brighton.

Cima's director of brand Ray Perry commented: "We are delighted that the public sector is embracing the benefits of management accounting."

The awards also recognised the work of two Cima members and a passed finalist in 'making a difference' in the public finance industry.

Chief executive of Cima Charles Tilley explained how the institute has made "commendable progress" by working alongside the Treasury to establish a "first-class financial culture" in the civil sector.

The awards mark the 25th anniversary of the Government Finance Profession, which boasts over 7,500 finance professionals, making it the largest government grouping.
