Going green 'can save businesses money'

News Article - 23 May 2012

Businesses who want to control costs during the recession may wish to place accounting for carbon emissions higher up their agenda, as going green could save them money, one sector commentator has claimed.

Erica Russell, Business Link adviser, said one of her group's clients was recently surveyed by the Carbon Trust, which identified some £6,000 worth of energy savings that could be made simply by switching equipment off.

And a pub in Kent was able to reduce their electricity bills by 17 per cent over the last two years by taking action in energy efficiency.

"Things like basic insulation, something that anybody can do, that's something that there is a lot of funding around for too. So it can be big business but it can also be very small businesses [that go green]," Ms Russell concluded.

A recent campaign launched by the Carbon Trust revealed that the economy could be boosted by £1 billion through taking climate change action.

The trust says most businesses could save up to 20 per cent on energy bills by taking low cost or no cost action on energy efficiency.
