Football Association 'needs more accountants'
News Article - 21 December 2006

Calls are being made for more accountants in the Football
Association (FA) in light of ongoing speculation over financial
corruption in football.
Lord Stevens recommends that a greater number of accountants be
introduced in football, arguing that a lack of financial expertise
could be a limiting factor in the FA's wider credibility.
In an inquiry into bung culture in football, Lord Stevens also
states that a new body to audit transfers would be of benefit,
providing targeted investigation of all transfers, separate from
the FA.
Lord Stevens' investigation into alleged bungs in Premiership
transfer deals has been ongoing for ten months. A total of 17 deals
have been highlighted for further investigation, out of 362
transfers. In total, 38 recommendations have arisen from the
inquiry.
"Every one of these recommendations must be implemented as they are
essential to the future and reputation of this game," stated Lord
Stevens.
"Failure to so will result in the game remaining under attack and
its remaining members subject to allegations and innuendo."
