Firms urged to do more to combat climate change

Businesses in Britain need to do more to reduce their energy consumption and help to combat climate change, an expert claims.

According to the managing director of the Green Consultancy, firms are becoming more concerned about the environment, but are not doing enough to reduce their impact on it.

John Treble suggests that it only takes small changes for companies to reduce their carbon emissions, with measures such as turning off computer screens when they are not in use making a big difference to energy consumption.

"There's a limit to how much you can do that automatically," he explained. "A lot of it is down to individuals doing the right thing."

The Johnson Controls Energy Efficiency Indicator survey found recently that almost three-quarters (72 per cent) of companies in the US are paying more attention to energy efficiency than they were a year ago.

Businesses planning to reduce their carbon footprints can invest in carbonaccounting software to make the process easier.
