Firms 'want stability in accounting software providers'

News Article - 15 February 2008
Category: Technology

Accountancy organisations and small to medium-sized enterprises (SME) are looking for stability and reliability with their accounting software providers, a new report suggests.

SME accounting software helps accountants with much of their work, and businesses often keep hold of their accounting packages for as long as they can, according to Accountancy Age magazine.

The publication indicates that the same software is used by firms for between five and ten years, and in some cases even longer.

It is suggested that businesses are looking for longevity in the software they use as having to change processes can often take longer than is desired.

"Build close relations with your supplier, [in particular] the technical teams. If your supplier is acquired these contacts could be a key point of contact for future help," the magazine states.

Commercial advice group Business Link says that choosing the right accounting software package can help make firms more efficient.
