Firms 'putting off Vista installation'

News Article - 17 August 2007
Category:

A growing number of businesses are delaying the implementation of the Windows Vista operating system, according to new research.

The poll by Forrester Research found that the majority of the 45 IT managers it queried earlier this year say they are waiting until after the first service pack for the system is launched in 2008 to deploy Vista.

Concerns were also voiced over the compatibility of current business applications with Vista, while some respondents said they had delayed making a decision because of the release of System Center Configuration Manager 2007 in the late summer.

"Many of the IT pros we've spoken with feel like they've just completed their operating system migration project and are wary of starting a new one any time soon," Forrester Research analyst Ben Gray wrote in the report.

Earlier this year, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates said at the Windows Hardware Engineering Conference that new hardware releases from the company's partners had helped to boost demand for the Vista operating system.
