Corporate social responsibility is on the rise in British
business, according to a new survey, with
carbon reduction among the top priorities for
firms.
A poll by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)
and the Institute of Business Ethics (IBE) found more than 80 per
cent of finance professionals are concerned with moral and ethical
issues in the workplace.
Additionally, over half of respondents singled out environmental
impact as of more importance now than in previous years.
Charles Tilley, chief executive at CIMA, has welcomed the results
but calls for more practical steps to be taken to reflect these
commitments, arguing: "Responsible and sustainable business is an
area that management accountants are well placed to drive forwards
and continue to influence."
Installing
carbonaccounting software is one way firms can work
out how to cut CO2
emissions and make other green savings.
Mr Tilley's comment echoes that of Keith Clarke, the chief
executive of consulting engineers Atkins, who recently told the
Guardian that UK firms should take "concrete steps" to reduce their
carbon footprints.
