Entrepreneur's individual abilities 'have more impact' than external support

News Article - 19 February 2008
Category: Business

The success or failure of a business is more dependent on the owner's individual abilities than the level of government support it receives, it has been claimed.

John de Groot of StartupCo stated that research has shown that the failure rate of a business has not changed over the years despite increases in spending on entrepreneurial support.

"It's the individual that makes the difference, not how much external support that they might get," he said.

However, exceptions to this include government grants for inventions, Mr de Groot added.

He also explained that on an individual level, external support can make a difference to a company as it can affect its success and growth.

Patrick Astre of Astre Planning recently told the Exchange Morning Post that one of the first things a business owner needs to do to prepare their company for the possible looming recession is invest in accounting software.
