Many data centre managers are failing to reap the benefits of
their SQL Server 2005 products, it has been claimed.
Consultancy firm Scalability Experts states that businesses are
not discovering that they could save on power and cooling bills
with the latest release of the program, ComputerWorld.com
reports.
The number of SQL data centre servers can be cut through the
program's NUMA capability, said Raj Gill, the firm's chief
technology officer.
Mr Gill, who is lecturing in Australia about the benefits that SQL
Server can bring to companies, told the website that he has cut his
power and cooling costs by 85 to 150 per cent through use of the
technology.
To reap some of the benefits on offer, firms need to focus on
issues including workflow governance, he said, adding: "Work flow
governance allows customers to tap into cell-based architecture
which allows resources to be utilised based on priority."
The 2008 version of the server is expected to be released on
February 27th.
