Major accountancy firm Deloitte has said that it remains very "open minded" when it comes to seeking new recruits to join its ranks.
In contrast to the stereotypical image of global finance corporations looking for talent from only the top universities and businesses in the world, Deloitte searches for new employees from a diverse range of backgrounds and socio-economic groups.
It is also keenly aware that it needs to form an understanding of how people perceive it as a firm in order to ensure continued business growth.
In describing their recruitment policies, Tom Crawford, the head of employee engagement and diversity, told the Times: "We put the people out there so that they can tell their stories.
"They can be realistic and honest with undergraduates and paint a real picture of life at Deloitte."
The company has also formed relationships with organisations that help young people from less affluent backgrounds realise their potential, with the Duke of Edinburgh's award scheme being one such example.
In other news, nebusiness.co.uk reports that Newcastle Building Society may halt recruitment in a bid to control costs, as two of its banks have been nationalised.
