Companies told to adopt energy-saving measures

Businesses across the UK are losing millions of pounds every day through energy wastage, it has been claimed.

New research by YouGov for the Carbon Trust has revealed that £7 million a day is being lost in UK industry through poor energy efficiency schemes.

Thus the trust is calling on firms to improve their energy efficiency, which may include installing carbonaccounting software to reveal problem areas and identify potential savings.

Solutions director at the Carbon Trust Hugh Jones stated: "The first place to look for cost savings should be their energy bill. There are literally millions of pounds going out of the window every day, across the UK."

He added that some "wise" companies are beginning to realise that "cutting carbon and being green is the easiest way to make a business lean".

Recently, shadow minister for the cabinet office Francis Maude criticised the government for not cutting enough carbon emissions through greener IT management.
