Companies 'not reporting on emissions'

News Article - 16 February 2009
Category:

While many businesses may be keen to begin accounting for carbon emissions, there are those that are not providing a report on emissions to the senior management, one sector commentator has claimed.

Caroline Allen, regional director for northern and east central Europe and Russia at the Association of Corporate Travel Executives (ACTE), said there was a lack of standardisation in firms' carbon emissions measurement.

She added: "There's a lot of information out there but it is quite confusing and makes it very difficult for organisations.

"We see airline and rail emissions are much easier to measure but clearly with ground transportation, it becomes a lot vaguer."

Ms Allen concluded that this may be the reason why 70 per cent of companies do not provide reports to senior management on carbon emissions.

According to the Fourth Annual ACTE - KDS Survey, 28 per cent of corporate travel departments are required to report to management on carbon emissions performance.
