The first Chinese representative office of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) has been opened in Shanghai.
It follows the earlier establishment of exam centres in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.
At the office's opening ceremony, Kathy Grimshaw, director of international development at CIMA, said: "A rapidly growing pool of CIMA professionals here will not only help support China's decision to move towards the adoption of international
accounting standards and strengthen the corporate governance framework, but will deliver Chartered Management Accountants to contribute to China's business performance and international competitiveness."
Shaghai government official, Xinghai Fang, said that the expansion would be welcomed by the city's business and wider community.
Earlier this month CIMA joined the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) and a number of industry bodies to launch the IFAC KnowledgeNet a search engine aimed at accountants in business.
The KnowledgeNet was designed to provide accountants and finance workers with a way of accessing articles, best practice guidelines and tools to aid them in their professions.
