Businesses can use
carbonaccounting software to help Britain meet
emissions reduction targets, as the government
prepares to launch a new renewable energy strategy.
The new green energy plans are part of attempts by the UK
government to reduce the country's
carbon emissions by 60 per cent by 2050 and will
be unveiled by prime minister Gordon Brown.
Under the renewable energy proposals, the number of wind turbines
in Britain is expected to be increased by 7,000 in the wake of
soaring oil prices and calls to secure the nation's energy
supply.
Solar panels and sustainable energy schemes will also receive an
endorsement from ministers, as will opening the national
electricity grid up to smaller companies, individuals and
organisations.
A new Planning Bill is expected to streamline applications systems
for green energy systems as part of commitments to meeting European
Union energy targets.
Philip Wolfe, director of the Renewable Energy Association,
commented: "We have only 12 years left and government still wants
to use two of those talking about it. The industry has a very short
space of time in which to meet challenging targets."
Ministers are aiming to ensure that 15 per cent of the UK's total
energy consumption is generated from renewable sources by 2020.
Less than five per cent of electricity currently generated in
Britain comes from renewable energy sources.
Carbonaccounting software can help businesses to boost
their green credentials, reduce costs and improve their carbon
footprints.
