Carbon accounting software can reduce IT emissions

News Article - 28 May 2008
Category:

Experts predict that energy-saving devices will play a big role in the future of the IT sector and carbonaccounting software can help businesses to reduce their technology emissions.

Speakers at a recent technology summit told delegates that energy saving will play a more and more important role in the IT industry, though overall energy use looks set to rise.

Reuters reports that businesses are exploring new ways to save energy in order to reduce costs and their impact on the environment.

David Goulden, chief financial officer of technology firm EMC, told the news agency: "We are trying to help customers manage that growth. They equate green to energy costs and energy being one of the biggest drivers of data centre costs."

The amount of data currently being stored is rising rapidly, potentially increasing energy use and IT experts are exploring new ways of storing information more efficiently.

Analysts have predicted that the forthcoming climate bill in the US will place additional pressure on company IT departments to cut energy use. Effective carbonaccounting software can help companies to identify areas in which their carbon footprints can be reduced and savings made.
