Businesses have been advised that they
could increase the productivity of their IT departments by
employing more women.
Kate Craig-Wood, managing director of Memset, explained that
companies with a good gender balance at the top level perform 34
per cent better in terms of internal equity.
She added that common sense dictated that a firm that employed
gender-balanced teams were likely to work better overall.
Speaking at the Intellect Annual Regent Conference 2009, Ms
Craig-Wood added: [Women and men] have slightly different skills
and fortes and when we mix them together that's when we are at our
most productive."
However, she warned that some women may not enjoy working in an
office that is largely male-centric.
The British Computer Society recently reported that according to
figures compiled by e-skills UK, male professionals working in the
IT and Telecoms sector earn on average around £720 a week,
while female professionals earn around £500.
