Businesses could be subjected to more frequent and expensive damage due to the recent bad weather in the UK, an insurance body has warned.
Innovative building designs for businesses and homes alike could ensure that property is more resilient to the bad weather, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
The warnings come following the high-speed winds and other adverse weather conditions which hit many parts of the UK on Thursday January 19th 2007.
Moreover, they come in light of findings which show businesses and homes have become 100 per cent more at risk from high floods over the last five years, the ABI states.
Jane Milne, ABI's head of property insurance, said: "Insurers are geared up to dealing with storm damage claims as quickly and efficiently as possible.
"Over the last three years they have paid on average £600 million a year to policy holders hit by storms."
A number of people were injured during Thursday's storms, with at least 11 people being killed, including five in the north-west of England.
