UK companies are increasingly focusing on ways to keep track of
their
carbon footprints, an expert claims.
Raymond McGloin, head of business sales for the energy provider
npower, insists growing pressure on firms to record their
carbon emissions, as well as the rising cost of
utilities, is driving demand for green practice in the
workplace.
According to a recent survey by the company, over half (57 per
cent) of the business employees polled believed their company was
wasting energy, a quarter said that it was difficult to get staff
to take energy saving action, while almost one in five were unsure
about where to make changes.
Mr McGloin says: "I think generally people are starting to see that
energy is no longer a commodity; [it] has moved itself into a price
bracket where it's starting to push prices up everywhere. I think
people have become more aware of the need to focus on energy
saving."
One way to help businesses understand the impact they have on the
environment is to install
carbonaccounting software.
This week world leaders at the G8 summit in Japan agreed targets to
cut greenhouse gas
emissions by at least 50 per cent before 2050.
