Many businesses assign scientists, engineers or environmental
managers to control the carbon management of organisations.
An increasing number of businesses are committing to carbon
accounting, particularly for companies involved in manufacturing
and production which makes carbon management such a complex
subject.
Businesses regulated by the European Emissions Trading Scheme
(EU-ETS) - required where organisations emit over 25,000 tonnes of
carbon dioxide equivalent (CDE) each year - require an expert to
understand the chemical processes and emissions sources in order to
provide an accurate carbon footprint report.
The mere cost and risk factors have influenced a number of
businesses regarding the management of CO2 emissions as an
important business strategy. Not only can carbon management
influence top line growth in business, it can also influence social
awareness and attitude towards the issue.
The number of certifications awarded to UK businesses for
reducing carbon emissions has reached 500, with many high street
retailers receiving the Carbon Trust Standard. The organisations
have gained this accolade following measures and reductions in
carbon emissions across their operations, with commitments to
reducing levels year on year.
Harry Morrison, general manager of the Carbon Trust Standard,
said: "There is a real business momentum now behind companies
measuring and most importantly committing to reduce their carbon
emissions. Each of the 500 Carbon Trust Standard bearers has taken
action to reduce their carbon emissions and therefore improve their
overall competitiveness.
"Some organisations undergo assessment to verify their
efficiency gains and benchmark their performance, others to help
lower their energy dependence, while for many, gaining the Carbon
Trust Standard provides the ability to confidently communicate
their performance to customers and carbon conscious consumers. We
congratulate them all on taking up the low carbon challenge and
setting the bar for others."
Reporting carbon footprints has never been more mainstream.
Access business accounting software can provide businesses with
management reporting software that enables a simple and
