Businesses 'could save £5,000 a year'

News Article - 02 June 2008

A growing number of companies are taking part in the Envirowise programme in order to reduce their impact on the environment.

More and more businesses are becoming aware of the business benefits of embracing green initiatives and carbonaccounting software can play an important role in reducing carbon footprints.

A report by the sustainability experts Envirowise indicates that firms can save an average of £5,000 each per year by implementing green measures, Wiltshire Business Online reports.

The government-funded agency is part of a range of efforts to encourage companies to implement changes, such as installing carbonaccounting software, which will both save them money and boost their green credentials.

Britain generated more greenhouse gases in 2007 under the EU carbon trading scheme than the previous year, with emissions up by 2.2 per cent, compared with an overall increase across Europe of just 0.68 per cent.

The House of Commons environmental audit committee has advised the government to introduce a scheme of person 'carbon credits' in order to reduce Britain's carbon footprint.
