British Library scoops accountancy prize

The British Library has won an Accountancy Age award in the public sector report of the year category.

Scooping the prize for the second year running, the institution was named as number one in the Annual Report and Accounts for the Public and Voluntary Sector category.

Entitled Connecting, this year's report aimed to demonstrate the ways in which The British Library is helping new audiences to view its collections and also elucidated the ways in which new technology has transformed this provision.

The document was also available online and fully hyperlinked, featuring a video interview with chief executive Lynn Brindley.

Judges of the competition enthused: "This report was excellent, engaging and provided comfort and reassurance as to what the management was up to."

They added that the report was easy to understand, particularly when presenting the key information.

Earlier this week, the Charities Aid Foundation urged charities to make their online reports more accessible and web-friendly, or risk "failing to embrace the opportunities of online communication".
