More Bristol firms are accounting for carbon as part of the city's Green Capital Pledge, it has emerged.

The Western Daily Press explains that the benefits of accounting for carbon more clearly can be many-fold.

They include the ability to cater for concerned clients who are asking questions about a company's corporate social responsibility.

One example of this is printing firm Doveton Press, which has begun sourcing its paper from sustainable forests.

And large businesses such as Wessex Water have also joined in the scheme, building new green headquarters with sustainability designed in.

The article adds that the other benefits to be derived include improved efficiency, a morale boost for staff and reduced costs.

Bristol city council explains that the pledge aims to ensure that, through a commitment to their corporate social responsibility, firms can place Bristol as the European Green Capital for 2010 or 2011.

The council points out that it is the only UK city to remain on the shortlist for the upcoming accolade.
