BDO named best accountancy firm

BDO Stoy Hayward has been awarded the Global Firm of the Year Award at this year's Accountancy Age Awards, beating the Big Four in a surprise result.

Having won the award for Large Firm of the Year in 2005, BDO has seen significant growth up until June 2006 with a fee income increase of over 20 per cent to £275 million.

Operating profits rose by 14 per cent to £70 million over the period.

Winning the Global Firm of the Year Award puts BDO in a strong position to meet its goals of becoming a preferred alternative to the Big Four. Over the past 12 months the firm has secured some 4,000 new clients, indicating continued success.

Judges were enthusiastic of BDO's progress.

"This entry stood out a mile in the accounting arena and they demonstrated that this was the firm that had progressed the most over the year," it was stated.

BDO Stoy Hayward is the UK arm of BDO International, which claims to be the fifth largest accountancy network in the world.
