Firms that are unable to adapt and increase business growth during the ongoing economic recession could go under, one sector commentator has claimed.

Kate Craig-Wood, managing director of Memset, said that "on the whole" the situation was currently "very bad".

"Many businesses are perhaps not in the right place [to survive the recession] and I see it as a time of separating the wheat from the chaff," she added.

And speaking at the Intellect Annual Regent Conference 2009, Ms Craig-Wood noted that while there were still opportunities to be had by businesses in the current market, they needed to be spotted and adapted to.

She concluded that she believed there would being some good bargains soon coming up in terms of acquisitions.

Attendees of the conference also heard discussions and presentations on trends in IT, telecoms and digital media expenditure that will affect businesses in the near future.
