IT bills can be substantially reduced by managing equipment in the most effective manner, new research shows.

According to analyst Gartner, total cost of ownership (TCO) can be lowered by focusing on service and maintenance.

The study estimates that maintenance bills for IT could be cut by 45 per cent simply by managing equipment efficiently, while the TCO of an average desktop PC can soar for a company from £600 initially to as much as £3,000 if managed ineffectively.

However, if equipment is properly managed the figure can be cut by £1,700 (42 per cent) to £1,300 TCO, while managing a laptop effectively can reduce bills by 45 per cent per year, from a whopping TCO of £4,934.

Gartner predicted last year that the leading IT trends for 2008 would include moving to 'green IT' and unified communications technologies.

Mid range accounting software can help companies to reduce costs and manage their business processes more effectively.
