Companies may wish to invest in carbonaccounting software in order to monitor business progress as they go green.

And those wishing to control costs and keep revenue high have been advised to connect users to the business.

Hadrian James, technology manager for Compuware, said: "The way we do that in 99.9 per cent of businesses all over the world now is that we actually have an application, you have a PC between the two of you at some stage."

However, he warned that poor application performance can cost firms money and a loss of customers.

If applications went down then a business would not be able to connect with the user or manufacture or ship a product.

According to a recent Compuware study, 64 per cent of respondents believed that poor application performance results in significant financial losses for their organisations.

Furthermore, 47 per cent of respondents stated that end users complain of poor application performance even when monitoring tools say everything is on target.
