Accounting firms 'may check employee credit history'

Accountancy graduates should be aware that their credit history may
influence the decisions of future employers, it has been
claimed.
Credit checking firm Equifax reports that as the trend of
inspecting applicant credit history increases in general, it is
especially appropriate for prospective financial employers to
utilise the reports.
The company estimates that students entering university this year
will accumulate around £30,000 of debt by 2010 and recommends
that all graduates obtain a copy of their credit history.
"I think there's a growing awareness of it now," commented Neil
Munroe, external affairs director at the firm. "People who come out
of university will need credit to develop their lifestyles, while
their incomes grow. So it's important that they do [check their
history]."
The National Statistics' Economic and Labour Market Review recently
revealed that the financial services industry experienced higher
levels of growth over the last ten years than any other UK business
sector.
