Accountants in demand in Scotland

News Article - 03 August 2007

Demand for accountancy staff is still high in Scotland, a new report has shown.

Findings by Robert Half Finance & Accounting highlight that 27 per cent of recruiters will be on the lookout for finance staff such as accountants over the next six months.

In addition, the survey also found that the same number of employers in Scotland intend to increase their level of workers by the same amount as they had planned in the first six months of the year.

Phil Booth, regional director of Robert Half Finance & Accounting: "In order to facilitate the demand for staff, Scottish employers need to look at competitive remuneration in order to attract high quality candidates and retain staff."

Additionally, recruiters should introduce benefits such as homeworking or flexible office hours to attract suitable candidates, he stated.

The Economist recently reported that smaller firms can take advantage of the recruitment processes of the big four companies, which can give the impression of being "sausage factories".
