Around ten per cent of accountants are expecting a pay rise of more than 25 per cent at their next review, according to new research.
A survey carried out by recruiting website eFinancialCareers.com asked more than 500 finance professionals how much they expected their salaries to rise in the near future, to which the majority replied between one and nine per cent.
Some 16.5 per cent of respondents also said that they are expecting bonuses of between ten and 20 per cent of their base salaries.
According to the survey, the reason for the optimism is a growing confidence in the financial sector, with almost 60 per cent of those questioned saying they believed 2007 would be better than 2006.
Ian Brown, editor-in-chief of eFinancialCareers.com, said: "The picture our stats are showing us is one of rapidly increasing expectations following a year of restraint in 2005."
He added that accountants should not celebrate yet because their expectations alone could not sustain pay packets or economies.
According to a survey by Accountancy Age, accountants now take home an average £46,280 per year.
