A significant number of finance professionals believe that their jobs are becoming more stressful, new research has shown.
Research by recruitment firm Elements found that 72 per cent of the 120 professionals polled believe their jobs involve more stress, while 82 per cent were working more than 40 hours each week.
Paul Bibby, managing director of the firm, said that accountancy is presently "more demanding" than in previous years due to recent events, such as the collapse of Enron and financial market upheaval.
"Today's accountants need to be highly proficient technically and at the same time, demonstrate a whole range of wider commercial skills if they are to deliver everything thats asked of them," he claimed.
The rewards for embarking upon a career in accountancy were recently highlighted by a study conducted by the Institute of Education.
According to the organisation, a male
accounting degree graduate is likely to earn 42.15 per cent more than someone with an arts degree, while a female student is expected to earn 37.12 per cent more, Accountancy Age reports.
