Accountants are among the financiers who are optimistic about how healthy the world economy will be next year.

Some 60 per cent of finance workers surveyed by recruitment group Robert Half International said they were confident of the health of the global economy in 2007.

Ian Graves, managing director Continental Europe, Robert Half International said: "It is good to see that so many finance professionals are positive about the future health of our global economy."

Those who expressed the most optimism were Canadians, with 28 per cent saying they were very confident the economy would be healthy, followed closely by US citizens of whom 24 per cent said they were very optimistic.

Mr Graves said that it was interesting to see such good predictions from the two countries, adding that their background within the industry as well as their experience made their opinions a "useful barometer" to measure the global economy in the future.

France and Germany were found to be the only countries with a pessimistic outlook towards the world's economy.

The chancellor Gordon Brown recently told a Confederation of British Industry conference that Britain needs to upgrade its economy to meet the challenges of globalisation, the Guardian reports.
