Accountancy companies are increasingly satisfied with their
websites and the business they can help drive, it has been
revealed.
Research by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and
Wales (ICAEW) found that 39 per cent of accountancy firms now have
a company website, while 12 per cent were planning to set one up
over the next year.
Satisfaction with the websites was shown to have risen since 2002,
when 52 per cent of firms believed their portals offered little or
no value, compared with 26 per cent in the more recent study.
However, most professionals felt that their computer software
systems were not integrated adequately. Some 57 per cent of
respondents said they used software from more than one supplier,
with 60 per cent believing that many software houses were not
making an effort to share data.
"We are pleased to see the potential of websites being recognised
by firms," said Paul Booth, technical and development manager from
the ICAEW IT Faculty.
"We are not surprised that users would like to see more integration
between practice software packages but we are pleased to note that
some of the software houses are already taking steps in that
direction."
Earlier this month, Accountancy Age reported that professionals
were unhappy with the software industry not providing different
programmes which could be integrated.
