Accountancy recruitment outstrips staff numbers says ICAI

Qualified accountants in Ireland are in greater demand than ever, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland's (ICAI) annual conference has heard.

Recruitment is becoming ever more challenging, with some posts, particularly at more senior levels, taking months to fill, the ICAI said.

Almost a third (30 per cent) of the certified public accountancy firms with staff at the conference said that they have vacancies for both senior and junior accountants.

"With salary rates on the increase, market demand stronger than ever and the profession offering increasingly diverse and attractive career opportunities, accountancy is fast becoming the career of choice for the ambitiously minded individual," said Brendan Allen, vice-president of the ICAI, reports Accountancy Age.
