PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) Deloitte and KPMG are the top three firms that recent graduates rate as desirable employers, new research for High Fliers has shown.

Changes to city regulation and growing demand and remuneration for accountants have increased the appeal of the profession, the report noted.

The increased staffing needs have also led to big campus-based recruitment drives, heavily flagging the perks and salaries available at big four firms.

"PwC has run 30 campus events, which is a spectacular commitment," said Martin Birchall of High Fliers. "At some universities you can't move without seeing a logo."

PwC has been at the top of the poll for the past three years, but Deloitte has climbed rapidly from sixth place in the 2005 poll.

After the big four firms, the best employees were said to be the civil service, the BBC and the NHS.
